31-1. That's the way voting goes when you don't want to get sued.

Thanks retired players. You're continued bitching is slowly killing the game.

This is my thoughts on that as well. I believe the owners voted so strongly to avoid future financial ramifications with being sued and they don't mind taking away from the game to avoid those types of scenarios. That's basically what it comes down to and the game suffers for it

I honestly don't think this is as big of a deal as people are making it.

    this will be illegal

    this wont

that helmet is being used as a weapon and to be honest I think this was the right call.

Hey! You finally got it! It has nothing to do with safety. Nothing to do with making the game better. It has everything to do with $$$$$$$

But the joke is on the nfl because it won't take too much more of these wussy rule changes to make the fans get bored and the $$$$$$ will dry up. Then maybe you'll see obama bail out the nfl.

this actually has quite a bit to do about safety. if anything, they might actually lose money from this.

I didn't see anything wrong with EITHER of those videos. In the vid that you say is illegal, I saw a rb turn quickly upfield and in a moments notice seeing that he was gonna have his head ripped off.... he tucked it thru natural instinct. NOTHING wrong with that.

And if it's the defender you're talking about (cus I have no idea) he was about to be hammered by a large mass of fast moving man and he braced himself. The strongest position that the human body can be in is the fetal position. Your muscles have more control and strength there. How better to protect yourself from whiplash and such than by getting your body tucked in like the fetal. The defender shrugged low and tucked his head bracing for impact. No biggie. Natural instinct.

You're not gonna remove natural instinct to protect ones self just with a rule change.

The nanny police take things away from us in pieces. Little at a time till nuthin left.

Tell you the truth. I don't think the players will play differently at all. they don't want to get their heads ripped off. The only thing I think you'll see is more stupid penalties. The kind that make you want to throw your beer thru the tv. What a shame.

Are the refs going to review every single play where an incident that could be a penalty due to this rule change occurs?

Probably not, there for tossing more flags than are necessary and ruining the game as we all know and love it. Goodell is slowly but surely killing the NFL. Depending on how this effects the game, I may just stop watching it. Really hoping this bull**** rule doesn't translate over to college.

I don't get it... I understand the owners being concerned about paying someone x amount of dollars and then and injury preventing them from being able to do so, but that is why they are paying the back up x amount of dollars as well... right? If this is the way they want to start doing things so that no one ever gets hurt, then save some money and get rid of the back up players.
