Harper also batted down a pass from a quick slant. I can't remember if that was Mason or the other WR they have. But it was a heads up play and it kept them from converting a 3rd down. That route is otherwise very difficult to defend and 9/10 times, that is completed for a first down.

Which makes me wonder why teams don't use slants 2/3 downs.

We definitely get a FG and momentum right before the half if LenDale doesn't fumble. Instead, we go in to the half starting to doubt ourselves and it doesn't help that we come out without CJ. That fumble was HUGE!

    1. You have to have a good WR that can sell the route, and get open.
    2. You have to have a QB that can get the WR the ball on that route.
    3. Probably because if you dont' have a good WR to run that route, the DB starts keying in on it and will do what Harper did.

Wrong. It was a cover 2 zone, Chris Hope was supposed to pickup the outside receiver as soon as he breached the secondary and got deep. Harper was looking back the whole time wondering what the hell was going on because DMase had a free release into the deep zone that Hope was supposed to be covering. Not Harpers fault at all, just a miscommunication on defense that cost us dearly.

Funny... the same thing happened on the other side with Griff and Finn, with DMase. Finn fell down at the very end and Griff couldn't get there in time to pick or bat the pass down and DMase caught it on the 4 or 5 yard line.
Lot's of blown coverage in that game.

That was Clayton and it was Hope (I think) and Finn.

    That was Hope. You're right.
Was Griffin blitzing or something? That's normally his side of the field.
Even if it was a Cover 1, they would have Griff back there covering and not Hope.

They probably played him up since they weren't really throwing.
