Griffin flagged for unnecessary roughness

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. Safety Michael Griffin was flagged for unnecessary roughness when officials ruled he led with his helmet while tackling Bills wide receiver Stevie Johnson.

Earlier this season Griffin was fined $21,000 after a similar hit against the Vikings.

“I don’t think I am target,” Griffin said. “Everybody says I don’t hit anybody, so I don’t know how I keep getting called for something I don’t do. I appealed the last fine, so now I am worried about this one.”

Griffin had Band-Aids on his right fingers, which have stitches as the result of an accident at home. He said he cut his hand on glass while trying to fix a gas lamp outside his front door.

He practiced all week, however, and his status for the game was never in question.

“I’m fine,” Griffin said. “Me with the screwdriver, trying to fix (the gas lamp) that was rusty, it didn’t budge so well. Maybe I should’ve used WD-40.”

It's not he refuses to hit anybody, it's that he completely misses the ball carrier about 50% of the time, and about another 30% of the time he doesn't wrap up and finish the tackle.
