One thing the Titans want to do a better job of defensively this season is being aggressive and taking risks.

But Titans defensive coordinator Jerry Gray said Tuesday there’s a limit to how much his team should push the envelope in that regard. Gray said some of the Titans’ first-team defensive problems in the two preseason losses were caused by players taking chances when they didn’t need to.

“The chances are calculated risks that you take when you go back there, and there are certain things you can do,” Gray said. “Most of the time, they are not going to be 100 percent. In that instance (against Cincinnati), we gave up a couple of plays.

“Last year we would have been trying to be perfect and not take any chances and you still would have probably given up that play. But now I can kind of talk to the guys making those decisions and say, `Hey, here’s a decision you might want to make in this instance and here’s a decision you might want to make in that instance.’ We’re trying to give them leeway to go make plays and not be robots on the field.”

Gray doesn’t want Titans defenders to be less aggressive just because they might have been burned on a play or two.

“You gotta’ be aggressive,” Gray said. “We want our guys being aggressive. We don’t want them being passive. We want to make the right aggressive plays. But if you don’t try to do something, we can never correct it.”

Playing 10 yards off the WR's is aggressive?

Especially when we have a bunch of big, physical corners? Lol Jerry Gray are you even trying?

I think he was talking about being more aggressive this season. It hasn't started yet.

I think he's saying I won't yell at you if you make a mistake being aggressive. At least that's what I hope he's saying.

We need our CB's jumping routes not letting them catch it just so they don't get beat.

My gut's telling me you guys are right but I'm trying to stay optimistic. Maybe if the fan base stays vocal enough about it.

Can someone explain the rationale for playing ten yds off the WRs? I know there has to be one, but I can't think what it could possible be. I'm serious ; didn't this happen under Fisher also?
