How do explain all the stories of bounties for that you've heard about for DECADES?

Trying to get their hits in before Gooddell took over?

Your premise is flawed. Goodell is not as much to blame as anyone. Who do you mean by "anyone"? Players? Coaches? GM's? Fans? Anybody? Anyone who has been found "guilty" by the league/Goodell?

Solid tackling hasn't been ruled illegal- only specific types of hits that are believed (with good evidence btw) to cause unnecessary and often permanent debilitating injuries. I am not a Goodell fan by any stretch, but I support his efforts in cleaning up the safety of the game. "Bounties" are a renegade concept outside of league rules. They result in financial damage to many players as well as a reduction in quality of life. This is analagous to civil lawsuits which employees file against corporations that knowingly jeopardized the health of its employees. It is only partially correct to state that players know and accept the risk of injury when they play the game. Players understand that they might be severely injured in normal play but they don't know that they are higher risk to be injured due to some players/teams "targeting" them specifically for injury.

The league is liable and could seriously still face civil lawsuits.

Saints got hammered because their was an initial inquiry 2-3 years ago in which Payton and Williams attempted to stonewall the commisioner. Now he has solid evidence. That is why they (and Loomis) are getting HAMMERED.

    T-Rac and Tim Tebow.

No you silly goose, I meant anyone involved in the bounty scandal. I forget that with some people, you can't use pronouns because it gives them too much room for interpretation. When I say "them" I'm talking about Zombies and the Steiner brothers. lol

I can tell from some of the response... which of you read and didn't read my wall of text. That's fine. It's just good to get this text out there so search engines can spyder it when the world is googling for answers on this incident.

    Goodell:

“While I will not address player conduct at this time, I am profoundly troubled by the fact that players – including leaders among the defensive players – embraced this program so enthusiastically and participated with what appears to have been a deliberate lack of concern for the well-being of their fellow players,” Commissioner Goodell said. “While all club personnel are expected to play to win, they must not let the quest for victory so cloud their judgment that they willingly and willfully target their opponents and engage in unsafe and prohibited conduct intended to injure players.”

You have a problem with this premise?? Have you even read the NFL ruling? Facts, NOT snippets from press or bloggers.

    You hit to hurt.

    Sorry.

This is football. And anyone that has played it from age 8 and up knows that's what's going on.

Watch college football. They get it.

Hurt or injure? Bruise, break or disable? There's a difference, especially when it comes to a professional's livelihood. Favre, Warner, Aaron Rodgers and....wait for it...Cam Newton all had price tags.

When it goes beyond a locker room/player pool and is administered by coaches and management there is a problem.

I don't think any players were hitting to injure.

Well, maybe knock them out of the game.

Again.. it's like boxing. A guy isn't trying to ruin the other's life- but he is trying to take him out.

And no way!! Surely there wasn't a bounty on a scrambling QB!! I can't believe this!
