While the wallets of the NFL are about to be opened I'm trying to think of FAs/trades in recent years that had such a profound impact on their new team that they were able to take it to the next level..

Moss & Welker come to mind but beyond that?

    Cruds is onto something.

What FA/Trade has made a team SUPERBOWL CHAMPION?

Plaxico to the Giants, last season.

Can't think of anyone to the Colts.
Can't think of anyone to the Steelers.

Someone help me out on the 38th,39th Superbowl champion Patriots. Seems like they were still a team built through the draft then.

Brad Johnson to the Bucs in the 37th Superbowl??

36th superbowl- Patriots, can't think of anyone.

Champions are predominantly built through the draft.

The Pats went undefeated last year mainly due to a huge crop of free agents.

I agree that it doesn't usually work out to depend on free agency to build a team but it can be used to fill holes and upgrade key skill positions.

    Just on our defense:
    KVB
    T. Brown
    Thornton
    Fowler
    Hope
    Harper

You have to be strategic with how free agency is used.

I know. But he didn't start his career with the Giants, and I thought we were talking about FA acquisitions overall, not just a FA that immediately took a team to the "next level". Perhaps I misunderstand Cruds original post.

My point is, that looking at the last 7 SUPERBOWL CHAMPIONS, there aren't very significant FA signings over the history of those teams, that I can think of, that turned them into champions.

Perhaps the biggest FA to have an impact on Superbowl Teams was Deion Sanders.

And I expanded upon the topic to talk about SB CHampions, not "next level" teams.

And certainly not last year's team that everyone said "oh why should the Titans even try in the playoffs because it's there season wah wah".

    18 and oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooone!
