Fowler wins Titans starting middle linebacker job

It took some hesitation by Ryan Fowler before winding up on the Tennessee Titans' roster for training camp. Fortunately, for the three-year veteran, the Tennessee coaching staff isn't second-guessing its decision to install him as the new starting middle ...more

Like Bobo said 40 times aren't everything.

Tulloch is faster regardless of 40 time.

40 times are not everything. I guess none of you noticed that there are 5 speed drills for players at the combine. I mentioned them try paying attention next time.

It's not that fowler is faster it's just a myth that tulloch is the faster guy. a myth based on the race of the 2 men only which is pretty pathetic and lame.

What is more scientific going by what color a guy is or how fast he ran in 5 different drills?

ok rolltide let me give you an example.

Micheal Huff I'd bet he would smoke VY in all speed drills, cone drills w/e in the combine.

Huff was like a 4.3 Young 4.55 whatever the other times were I'm sure Huff was faster.

Huff said VY outran him plenty of times in practice. Why theres a thing called gasme speed. Not running around on fast turf in spandex.

In Games we wear pads and and react to play and some guys are just faster on the field I don't think it's that hard of a concept.

Tulloch is faster on the field than Fowler regardless of race, 40 time, cone drill whatever it's pretty easy to recognize when you whatch. Tulloch is a fast LB. thats not to say Fowler is slow because he isn't I'm just saying for the sake of this arguement Tulloch is faster.

Big picture though speed doesnt eqaul production so whoever produces should start which they feel is Fowler so hopefully he steps up.

Nice model for comparison vince young and a safety.

The best linebackers in the nfl are often guys who had great 40 times. Urlacher 4.59 outstanding for a 6'4 260 lb MLB. What about bulluck he ran a 4.47!

Tulloch might appear faster because he runs directly to a spot rather than sliding along the line and strafing which is more preferred. Tulloch also may out run plays or be victimized by cut backs more.

Again i would rather go by their respected 40 times, 10 yard times and 20 yard times rather than your opinion of how fast each guy appears to be running.

Perhaps in the next olympics we can determine world records by who looks like they are running faster rather than the actual time?

    Tulloch is bigger..!

I know the program lists tulloch @t 5'11 235 and fowler @ 6'3 250. But those are just numbers, stats. I saw them both play and tulloch looked bigger so it's him and i don't care what any scale or tape tells me different! Note that what i think i saw is the best determinant of anything!

    Game speed..

There is such a thing and it is a player's top speed. Take a guy and have him run a 40 and around the 25 yard mark put a jugs gun on him like you do for baseball pitchers. Actually time the MPH a guy is running! I'm surprised they don't do that..

Problem is that is a number and not nearly as reliable as a posters personal opinion as to who was actually moving faster.
