Puck, KamikaZ...you both make very fine point(s).
CT, don't glorify a guy like that. That is the type of mentality that fosters gang violence. Senseless killing is just that...senseless.

Honestly, a bunch of political talk (that's what it boils down too) doesn't even belong in a smack forum. But anyways...don't give this Williams cat too much credit for creating gangland out there in LA. If it wasn't him it would have been somebody else. Every generation has a series of gangs... Gangs are a result of a society turning it's back on the lowest of castes. You take enough young men with nothing to do and show them some kind of way to make easy money, be it bootlegging (1920 era prohibition) or the hey-day of big time cocaine trafficking gangs...it's all the same...before any of that in mid 19th century New York there were tons of street gangs who's primary occupation was crime be it murder for hire or simple theft...any way to make a buck...Gangs in general could easily be called a cancer...but in fairness cancers have causes.

Now, I don't think that there is any real way to achieve some sort of utopian society here in the United States but I think one must recognoize that society's problems can only be blamed on society, so which, I must reluctantly concede does make this Williams character some sort of victim.
That doesn't necessarily make him a hero. Anybody that does view this guy as some kind of hero risks falling to the same fate, which sadly is not heroic or tragic but just pathetic. If you choose the path of the criminal you are first, a victim of your own choice and second, a victim of society.

Probably the most coherent/insightful post I've ever seen you drop, even though I disagree with a few of your points. :))
