There are plenty of reasons the Titans should feel confident as they turn to back-up quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick for the foreseeable future.

He has over eight years of NFL experience and has started 68 NFL games. He spent the last three years as Buffalo’s full-time starter, throwing for at least 3,000 yards in each of those contests.

And let’s not forget that Fitzpatrick is a Harvard graduate who’s been with the Titans since the start of the offseason, so it’s not like he’s going to be baffled by a new offensive system when he steps into the starter’s role.

One potential area of concern with Fitzpatrick? Turnovers.

The Titans are the only team in the league that hasn’t suffered a turnover through four games, a stat that’s gone a long way toward boosting Tennessee to a surprising 3-1 start.

But turnovers were an issue for Fitzpatrick in Buffalo, where he threw 54 interceptions and fumbled 23 times (losing 13) in 45 games over the past three seasons.

Fitzpatrick suffered 22 turnovers in 16 games last year, throwing 16 interceptions and losing six fumbles. His ratio of interceptions to attempts in 2012 was 3.2 %, which was tied with Jay Cutler for seventh-worst in the league among starting quarterbacks.

It’s obviously unrealistic to think the Titans can continue their streak of playing turnover-free for much longer, but it’s important that Fitzpatrick keep mistakes to a minimum.

Pass protection was horrible while he was a starter in Buffalo. Part of keeping mistakes to a minimum for Fitzy is keeping the pass rush off him.

He needs to make smart decisions and I know our wide outs will do a good job of helping him out and getting open. I can see nate being the veteran stepping up as much as has and really helping fitz out.

Not sure why some people go by what he accomplished/didn't accomplished at buffalo to be his identity. He's with us and we're a total different team than what he had while playing at buffalo. Fitz will have more weapons and a better line.

Give him a week of preparing and he'll do fine.
