Fisher will never get us to the championship game again. He's too content with finish 8-8 or 9-7 every year.

Is this about the "best coach" or "most successful coach"? I see the two as being very different.

Record is a good indicator but the best coaches in history have bad seasons and some pretty weak coaches win it all.

In some areas, I think Fisher is a great coach. He does well with the media and fans. I think his players enjoy playing for him. In the areas of scheme and decisions during the game itself, I wouldn't rank him any more than average.

Top 10? I think so. Top 3? Nope.

Yeah, we had two of those years, and they were awful. I can't believe, after seeing that, that Alex would gladly take 8 of those years out of every ten for one superbowl victory. That's sad, to me.

However, those years were not the same as what we've seen from the truly disfunctional teams. In 2004, we had a good team, but a truly massive amount of injuries. At the time, I think it was some kind of a record for most starters missing games. After that season, we blew up and got rid of a bunch of our stars, and 2005 was our one rebuilding year. Yeah, we've had one rebuilding year out of the last twelve. I think that's pretty impressive.

Again, I'm not saying that Fisher is a top three or even top five coach. I certainly think he's better than average. Those of you that prefer Childress or Gailey, you deserve what you get.

Mostly, I end up frustrated in these threads, because I'm perfectly willing to accept some of the more reasonable criticism of Fisher. The problem with forums is that certain views get repeated over and over again until they start to become more extreme. Fisher's credibility in this forum has certainly suffered from that.

If anyone can actually make a legitimate case for Fisher being a below average coach, or an idiot, or any of the other more extreme things that people like to say to vent, I'd be surprised. I understand that people need to vent sometimes, they also just need to be able to come back down afterwards and recognize their exagerrated claims.

Fisher's an idiot? Fisher's totally to blame for 0-6? Fisher is guaranteed to never win us a superbowl? Take some deep breaths, calm down, and try to be a little more reasonable.

Perhaps you misunderstand the premise. Would you also choose to have 8 out of 10 good seasons with guaranteed NO superbowl, verse 2 out of 10 good seasons but a guaranteed Superbowl win??

I'd choose the guaranteed Superbowl win option every decade. Those years we were crappy, I still enjoyed going to the games.

For the record I neither said Fisher's totally to blame for 0-6 or that he is guaranteed to never win us a superbowl. I don't think you were specifically singling me out there, but making "wild exaggerations" can happen from both sides.

Wouldn't have made a difference and it was only one game. But I'm glad you brought up the New England game. How many other teams last year lost by more than 59 points? How many times has that EVER happened? I knew we were going to lose that game by a lot by I was thinking 30 not double that. We were too good of a team last year to be destroyed that badly by a New England team that couldn't even win a home playoff game.

Alex, just meant to single you out on your choice of super bowl + losing seasons v. winning seasons and no super bowl, not on those other things. They were meant to be a compilation of other posters' overly dramatic claims. Sorry.

I don't know what I'd choose in your scenario. Probably the same as you, if I could guarantee a Super Bowl. My problem is that you can't guarantee anything in the NFL, so I want to go with what I know gives me a solid shot. I know that we've had four solid chances to win the superbowl since the Titans came to town. It just didn't all fall in place for us. That doesn't mean that it won't in the future, so I'm ok with sticking with a coach that gives us some good chances, and rarely gives us years where we aren't at least in the mix.

See, I even disagree with that part. He's not good at all with the media and due to that- fans hate his Fisherspeak. He's monotone, no personality, seems to never answer a question directly, and sometimes just absurd.

I do agree that players like playing for him- but I'd bet it's due to him being soft. I've never seen Fisher get in someone's arse for doing something stupid- and he's had a collection of opportunities.
