He didn't suck. INJURIES ended him, not skills. Hard to be a good receiver when you're rushed back from injury just to become re-injured. He was showing lots of promise and progression. His hands weren't near as much of a problem as people made it out to be. He'd make tough grabs and would occasionally drop the easy ones. Mostly his rookie year.

Gloat, go back and read up on Calico's first two seasons. The guy was inconsistent from day one. He would do something special followed by dropping a four-yard slant.

He showed some flashes of a great receiver. His first year he caught a TD on the first drive against the Raiders in the AFC championship rematch.

  5. yea but his hands were way too inconsistent for him to be considered a real threat.. which doesnt work in the NFL

Yeah, which is basically what I said. His hands weren't the problem. He caught plenty tough catches in traffic that proved it. His concentration was the issue. It was the easy balls he missed due to looking up-field before making the catch. Still, he became consistent right before the injury and was looking very promising. The rest is history though.

1up.com has a new article on Madden. Most of the info has already been discussed, but at the end it mentions new ratings in the game. "New attributes will also be a factor. There's now Ball Carrier Vision, Catch in Traffic, Spectacular Catch, Route Running and Hit Power -- all things that used to be handled by Awareness. This means star players really have a chance to shine, as there will be more distinctions throughout the game."

I'm definately glad to see new reciever ratings, because so few factors would
make a good reciever in previous years.

  8. i like that we cant just put a speedster WR up on a corner like Champ and just burn himm, i like that u have to match them with skill... its going to make the game much more realistic

He was 100% healthy and Jones started ahead of him. He was far from consistent before or after the injury.

Bottom line is Calico was one of those coulda been shoulda been players. Unfortunately... he didn't turn into the player we knew he could be.

Now its time for Jones to shine.

    Will he?
