Family Guy steals from The Simpsons..

That's what comedy is nowadays.

FG has their manatees joke. South Park tackles current issues (mostly).

 

How is FG just cheap jokes when all South Park does is take popular current events and make the obvious jokes?
It's like watching a more edgy cartooned version of Jay Leno's monologue.

 

If only Jay Leno was funny

There isn't any wit involved in most of it.

 

Who is to say what comedy is? Comedy is what people find funny. I think it is funny that the issue that family guy deals with: modeling and how it sends the wrong signal to girl, orphans discovering there past, they did a spoof on cults and how they could convince people it was alright to sacrifice there lives just to name a few of the story lines in FG are low brow humor because they deal with more modern problems then going straight into the heart of a political issue to tell everyone there view and make a joke out of the other sides points.

Each type of comedy has its place. People try to compare them to much because they are both sitcoms based on families that are animated.

I loved that.

 

Yes, there is TONS of wit involved. Which is why they're a huge success with a comedic show. And why you'll never be a comedic writer. Regardless of whether you like it or not, they're very good at making shows and many consider them better than the simpsons. But, it's a Jordan vs Wilt debate. Of course the old people stick with the simpsons, but the young crowd will go with FG, and then there are a few that are fair enough to call it down the middle.
