Discussion in 'NFL Draft' started by Pro Football Talk, Apr 18, 2014.
Didn't the Pats take Mallet? Maybe my memory fails me.
Never mind. I just educated myself. Damn time flies.
Some rumors flying around that mallet could be dealt on draft day.
Didn't see that coming. Interesting. To possibly draft another QB this year? Doesn't make sense to me. I will have to ponder on that for a bit.
He's on the last year of his contract regardless. Doubtful they resign him, if they can get anything for him it's a win.
OK- I have pondered on it for a bit now. Not sure why I would trade away a capable QB that has been learning my system for years for another unknown quantity in the draft. Unless they see something that doesn't fit with them, and see the value in a trade (Jackpot) situation, I don't get it.
They see that they aren't going to be able to retain him after this season so now is their only chance to get anything in return from him. I don't think it requires a lot of pondering to grasp.
Why not let him play his contract out-if Brady goes down- he steps in and maybe gets an extension. Plenty to ponder about! I grasp the situation, just not so sure that bringing in a rookie is the answer if #1 goes down. There is a huge learning curve stepping in to the NFL. The value of a trade has to be over the top in order to let a guy go that has the knowledge of your system. It is not like the Pats do not have a chance at winning it all.
True but if Brady goes down they're F'd anyway.
