Gregg Williams has been a football fan long enough to know:

A big game is the only defense for Peyton Manning.

    Lucky him.

He could beat him if he learns from his mistakes, and the Jets', this past weekend.

The Saints got shredded by the Vikings, at least partly because they overblitzed.

The Jets had a tactic that worked early, when they got the two early sacks, but they stuck with it and didn't change it up enough, and the Colts figured it out and moved on.

We'll see what he brings as a gameplan, and whether he can adjust with it. However, it's going to take a great plan and great execution to stop the Colts. The bigger issue for the Saints is probably whether their offense can get back on track. Brees didn't look as good as normal on Sunday. He needs to bring his A game in the super bowl.

To me, the Colts / Manning are like the Borg. You have to constanly change plan of attack / scheme to prevent them from adapting and overpowering.

    Resistance is futile.

In 2004, Manning has a 136.8 passer rating when the defense blitzed.

In '09, his completion rate is virtually even whether facing a blitz or not, but he makes opponents pay with 9.01 yards per attempt--significantly higher than his 7.56 without that pressure.

Being selective and mixing up the blitz seems to be the best option. If the Saints can't get pressure up the middle from their front four, then it'll be a long day.

Definitely agree with you about pressure up the middle making or breaking the Saints' chances. Also that defenses should still blitz Manning, just not heavily and as mixed up as possible.

For the record Greg Williams does NOT have much experience game planning peyton manning as a D-coordinator.

As titan D-coordinator Williams only game planned for Manning one time, the 99 playoff game.

He game planned for Manning only one time as redskin d-coordinator and 2 times in 2008 as Jags d-coordinator.

That's 4 games in 11 years. He does NOT have any special experience.

He played Manning 2 times as a head coach with the Bills.

Perhaps titan jeff is forgetting that it wasn't until 2 years after Williams left here that the Colts and Titans were part of the same division.
