SUMMARY: More details on the deal for Vince Young has been released which show the third pick of the draft will earn just $800,000 less than what No. 1 overall pick Mario Williams received from the Houston Texans but could exceed Williams' deal by $4 million. Other details of the contract include a $12.3 million option bonus due next March that kicks in the sixth and final year of the contract. The report went on to say Young’s deal also contains a $2.665 million roster bonus and a $4.1 million bonus if the quarterback plays 35 percent of his snaps as a rookie or 45 percent of the snaps in any subsequent year. Young's contract includes base salaries of $275,000 in 2006, $3.3 million (in '07), $3.9 million (in '08), $4.6 million (in '09), $5.2 million (in '10) and $3.5 million in 2011, the option year.

Those numbers just re-inforce that Billy's tenure is absolutely a maximum of 1 year.

Speculation that Young will need 2-3 years to "be ready" obviously aren't shared by the head office.

Me too. Wonder if it was a typo?

  9. I'm not sure of this, but perhaps since it's the option year (and there is a huge bonus tied to it), that isn't a problem here...

If he sits the first two seasons or does not meet the 35% 45% he could save the Titans 4.1 million. That 4.1 is larger then the 3.3 he is getting next season. If Volek did well economically the Titans should hold him and make sure Young does not get his incentive bonus. Now that is more of a business point of view and I am sure Young and his agent would make a stink if they save him for that long just to miss this incentive but it is a possibility.
