    It is totally idiotic to put situations like these against each other.

    Especially with these stupid '>' symbols.

    I agree with the premise to a point. The situation in Darfur is certainly much more dire. The problem is that this issue goes a lot deeper than just comparing death to death.

    People in the west, by and large, are going to be more interested in the VA Tech story not just because it happened in the US, but because of the nature of the incident.

    We are not a nation of displaced people being shot at by paramilitary forces. We can't even relate to that kind of tragic lifestyle.

    We are, on the other hand, college students or parents or siblings or friends of college students. The VA Tech incident is something that could've happened to any of us or close associates of any of us.

    I don't blame the media. CNN knows what stories interest the public. It's their job to (over) feed us. If the story in Darfur was of great direct consequence to the American public, we'd see it more.

    I'm not saying that is right or wrong. I'm just saying it is.
