    I think it is reasonable to note that the running Quarterback is a relatively new concept. This all starts with college teams, and the birth of the running QB has really come hand in hand with the birth of the spread offense in college football. There have always been QBs who can scramble, but never before Vick were there QBs who primarily ran first. So you are right that all of those QBs listed above are pocket QBs, but you all have to remember how few running QBs there have been in the NFL as well. It's the direction college football has started to go in, and we've yet to see how it works out in the NFL.

    I'm not even saying a running QB will never work. It's clear that it is more difficult to be successful in the NFL because the playing field is a lot more leveled and you're not playing against Baylor and Oklahoma St's defense every year. So why are the Titans to re-invent the wheel?

    Imagine having to play against an 8 man front every game. Essentially that is what happens with one of these arm-challenged guys under center. It just won't work in the NFL, it would if they could manage games and stay healthy. But how is VY gonna run with a bad Quad,Hammy and partially torn knee ligaments?

    Risk vs. Reward. This type of quarterback has redefined college football. Eventually it's going to come the NFL. If we are lucky enough to find a successful one early, then it pays off huge for us. Not to mention we were in a position to take one who was a Heisman runner-up and virtually related to our last "Franchise" QB. So we take a chance. And luckily we have an old school QB on the roster to take care of things if our new one struggles, as we are seeing now. We will see how it all plays out.

    Isn't this true for passing QBs as well?

    Just thought I would note that throwing in the NFL is just as much, if not more difficult than running in the NFL. Ask Matt Leinart about that.

    What is the definition of a running QB?

    If you are talking about a guy who can run with the ball and nothing else i agree they suck!

    But if a QB is a capable passer who also happens to have that extra addititonal talent to run than what could ever be wrong with that?

    Steve mcnair was never just a runner he was always at least an average passer. In some years better than that.

    Why would anybody ever just call culpepper a running QB? The guy had a 4700 yard passing season!

    Everyone says that culpepper benefitted from moss but look what moss did when he left minnesota? He sucked and his QB in oakland?

    Oh? :eek::eek: Nevermind..

    Vince and the ipod..

    Even if all he was hearing in that head set was the communication between dinger, the other coaches and collins shouldn't he be up on his feet and more involved in what the team was doing? Or did he sit back away from things for safety reasons? That would make sense wouldn't want the guy to get rolled up on neat the sideline.

    Why is going to eventually come to the NFL? Are defenders going to get slower in the future?

    It's like saying the best "shooter" in the world is also capable of being a great basketball player in the NBA. It's the same game; basketball. But the concepts are 100% different. That has been proven over and over in the NFL and teams, like the Titans, try to trick themselves into thinking otherwise.
