MINNEAPOLIS Middle linebacker Colin McCarthy returned to the field for the first time since he suffered an ankle injury in the season opener on Sept. 9. The second-year pro played with a heavily taped right ankle and didn’t look to be at full speed, but he did come up with six tackles.

“I just wanted to get out there with the guys,” McCarthy said. “It’s not hurting to the point where I’m hurting the team. I felt like I could help the team out, so that’s why I went out and played.”

McCarthy didn’t play much in the fourth quarter and headed to the locker room early with trainers. But he said the move was precautionary in anticipation of Thursday’s game against the Steelers.

“I’m just trying to get ready for Pittsburgh now,” McCarthy said. “With the fourth quarter the way it was, I just trying to get ready. I’ll continue to do treatment and continue to try to be smart so come Thursday, I can get out there to try to give it a run again.”

Cornerback Jason McCourty said McCarthy’s return made a difference for the defense.

“He is our star middle linebacker,” McCourty said. “He is one of our captains and he is a playmaker. So having him back out there was huge for us.”

He seemed a bit rusty and slowed by the ankle. But you have to admire him gutting it out.

Yep. At least he looks like he actually wants to play some football. Wish I could say that for the rest of this team.

He struggled that's for sure... IF he's ever 100% I doubt we'll see that type of play.
