He is 148 yards away from 1,000. I think 99% of this board thought he would never reach that, it's a pretty good accomplishment regarding the type of year he has had...with that said, 1,000 yard back isn't all that and a bag of chips any more. A back needs to only average 62.5 yards over the course of a 16 game season to hit 1,000. I am more impressed with his YPC going from 2.8 to 4.1 thought.

Oh well...you think he hits 1,000 or no?

62.5 yards per game in a 16 game season to get to 1,000 yards. Any guy who gets the lion's share of carries for 16 games should get 1,000 yards.

    Consider me unimpressed.

He still has a shot with a game against the Colts to get to a nice number(1,250+)

Also consider that he's only gotten 200 carries for 850 yards and in his rookie year he had 250 for 1250 yards which was considered a very good year. I think if he ends up with around 250-270 and and around 1150 or 1200 that's very respectable considering he had 350 yards at mid season.

You can't realistically expect much more than 1300 yards rushing in a season with how many carries he's gotten anyway, albeit part of the reason he got less carries in a few games was his own fault.

I'll be happy with 1050-1100 and a 4.2 average considering how he started...

If he manages to get 1200 yards I will be very impressed. I honestly did not think he would make it to 1,000 (barring injury, it looks like he will).

1,000 yards isn't what it used to be.

Every decent back in the NFL gets 1,000 with enough opportunity.

Rushing yards are just a function of how many times you run the ball. Anyone can get 1000 yards if they get enough carries (unless they have negative ypc). There will be RBs over 1000 that have to split carries. If he can get his YPC anywhere between 4-5, I'll be content with his season.

It doesn't take a brilliant mathmatician to calculate how many yards per game it takes to run for 1000 yards and no it isn't real impressive for a RB to get 1000 yards anymore. But now if a RB basically takes the whole first half of the season off and then runs for 1000 yards isn't it a little impressive?

To put things in perspective since we have some mathmatics students in the crowd consider this. Over the last 5 games CJ has 550 yards on 99 carries. That is a 5.5 YPC average and 110 yards per game. That includes the 12 for 13 game against Atlanta. So basically for the last 5 games (notice I started counting at the Cincy game (64 yards) and not at the Carolina game) CJ has been playing at a pace where he could get 1700+ yards a game even including a couple of games that were not all that great (one was horrid and the other was 64 yards). Even including the Atlanta game where he averaged 1 yd per carry his average is still 5.5. So the bottom line is CJ has been playing close to his 2009 level for the last 5 games (his YPC that season was 5.6). If he can finish averaging about 100 yards per game, 10 yards less than his average over the last 4 games on about 20 carries per game (which is what he averaged the last 5 games) he will end the regular season at just shy of 300 carries (288) for 1252 yards and a 4.3 YPC average. Overall not a bad year at all but for the last half of the season exceptional.

His YPC is already at 4.1. I think he has a real good chance at finishing over 4.0 for his average.
