Running back Chris Johnson has watched Usain Bolt in the Olympics, and like everyone else, he’s been blown away.

“He is a great athlete,’’ Johnson said of Bolt. “I think he’ll be the best track athlete ever to compete in the Olympics.”

Still, Johnson thinks he could beat Bolt in a race.

“I feel like if I would have kept training for track I’d have a chance, but I play football and he runs track, so it’s totally different,’’ Johnson said. “I think I could still probably beat him in the 40. If I actually trained for the distance he trained for, I think I’d have a chance.”

Bolt set world records in the 100 and 200 meters at the Beijing Olympics four years ago. In this year’s Olympics in London, Bolt broke his Olympic record for the 100 in 9.63 seconds.

He’ll run in the 200 on Thursday.

Johnson was once clocked at 4.24 in the 40, which is officially the fastest time clocked at the NFL Combine. He was a track star in high school in Orlando, Fla.

“Training for football, we do a lot of short sprints — we do 40s and 50s and things like that. We don’t really train like track athletes,’’ Johnson said. “If a track athlete tried to come play football it would be totally different (for Bolt).”

This is the exact same story as a few years ago when this came up. He is probably right anyway. In the 40 it would be close but anything longer Johnson would get destroyed and it sounds like he knows that.

    1. Yes, it would be different for either of you to train for the others sport Chris.
    2. You could possibly give him a problem in the 40 (If you can still run 4.24 that is) (Can you?)
    3. Uh, no. You couldn't ever beat Bolt in the 100 or 200 meters. Sorry. No. Nah.

Just run the damned ball on the football field and shut up about anything else...

Chris Johnson would get demolished in the hurdles.

    Uhhhh, NOPE!

Willie Gault and Renaldo Nehamiah did pretty well as track athletes in the NFL. CJ wouldn't stand a chance against Bolt, even in a 40. I wonder if Bolt can catch a ball? Could be worth a flyer to some team with a strong armed QB.

I'll just say I'd take C.J. as a track star before I'd take Bolt as a football player.

If you notice when Bolt runs, he doesn't really hit full stride or hit the jets until the 40-50 meter mark. Then he just pulls away.

I think CJ could keep up in the 40 if not beat him.

Track stars are not always football players. I remember trying to convert the track guys. Some couldn't catch and some would just run straight and get destroyed by the defense.
