I lost my version of Cakewalk, so now I have nothing but an antique GE jambox that can make recordings on tapes. That's "cassette tapes" kids :ha:

I could try something on my puter, and I believe there are other simple/cheap recording toys. Any ideas musicians?

Oh yes...there's a new free one that's making raves....lemme see if I can find it again..it's mentioned at another forum, so this may take a little while.

    ...Or not.
    Here it is: REAPER

Demo has no restrictions...fully functional. But if you like it, send them $40 sometime out of gratitude.

I learned about it fom Cakewalk freaks..they like it.

Thanks avvie, I kinda figured you'd come through :ha:

Still wish I could find my copy of Cakewalk, I was used to it. I got a version of another "better" program too, also can't find it :irked:

    Which version did you have?
If you have the registration #s for it (assuming it was any version above LE), you may be able to DL it from the site. Reg #s may be in your e-mails.

If it was the freebie LE, you may be able to get it from bittorrent. BT has a lot of "warez", which I REALLY, REALLY don't suggest, but LE versions are free versions bundled with hardware packages.

I've also seen e-bayers sell their bundled discs for under $10. Check that out also.

I'm a little clueless as to what version it was lol. I got it from a friend. He gave me two different versions, but I don't think I have any registration #'s.

    I hear ya'.

Here's another one you may want to check out...not as complex in features as Cake, Logic, ProTools, et al, but your post mentioned simple and easy.

This one is totally free, and is in open source code so that users can add/update/bugfix as necessary.

Avvie, have you tried Audacity? Just playing with it, and I can't find a serious sounding distortion for my rock and rolla. It has a few "distortions", but they don't sounds like anything I'd use :ha:

I do all my distortions with a Behringer pre-amp. Apple's Logic distortions are okay, but...

Hey, waitaminute...somebody put out a free VST plug-in that is an awesome Marshall JCM900 simulator! Lemme see if can find it for you. I'm in a rush now, but I'll look for it.

There's some really good VST effects out there for free....there's a lot of crap, too. I'll turn you on to some of the best ones...you don't need many...distortion, delay, modulations (chorus, flange, phase) and compression.

Gotta run for now, but I'll see if I can get you hooked up tonight.

Bobo, I can't try these for you because I don't use VST plug-ins (Mac user, yaknow).

Okay, here's a freebie that's getting some good reviews...It appears to be a Mesa Boogie simulator, and it's a Voxengo product, so it can't be that bad...

I think this is the JCM900 sim I was talking about...the page looks familiar, anyway :ha:

    Now, on to other effects....

The Expert Sleepers Ping-Pong Delay works great for me...in fact, it's saved my butt a few times...

My stock phaser is fine, but you may want to check this one out:

The Digital Fish Phones FishFillets package includes the best, easiest-to-use compressor compressor in the world--the Blockfish. I LOOVE this thing:

I haven't tried this chorus, but it seems to have some good reviews. I think a buddy of mine tried it and liked it better than most also:

The Funky Flanger is a multi-tasking modulation effects unit...

That should keep you busy for a while!
