Wow, so was that based on how he did as HC in Washington or in Oakland? :ha:

Wow, Norvell Turner. Thank Goodness. They can say what they want about Marty but he is still a hell of a coach. Turner, man. He was a very good playcaller for Aikman and Company, amazing that he is still riding that wave in 2007. San Diego will be begging for Marty in a couple of years.

He might just be a stopgap coach until the big names hit next year.... either way it's a pretty awful choice.

    Wooohooo!!! Norv Turner!!

The chargers front office needs to be kicked swiftly in the nards... You don't fire your head coach that just took your team to the NFL's top record for a has-been like Norv. SD desrves what they get. They are a poorly ran organization and I hope they flop on their face.

Turner is a great offensive coordinator, look at what he did with the Cowboys in the early 90s and last year with San Fransisco, he helped a second year QB come off a season with 1 td to 11 ints and made him look very good and completely resurected the SF running game, who could have thought Frank Gore would have more rushing yards than anyone else in the NFC?

That said, he is a horrible head coach, he couldn't do anything with Washington, he made the playoffs once in seven years, and he went 5-11 and 4-12 in two seasons in Oakland, the guy does not need to be in a HC position.

I saw him as a coach who toes the company line. Very easy going. Relaxed. Never boils over. What you have to ask yourself is do the Chargers need that kind of coach? They may need him. They are not unlike the Dallas Cowboys. They are set. They already have a team. He could be their Phil Jackson. What he may not be, is a Larry Brown (can turn a team around from scratch). We are about to find out if he just plain sucks or falls into the category of coach that excels with a prepared team.

In other words if he needs someone else to do the hard work (assemble players) but remember, he didn't inherit a horrible team in Washington, when he took over in 94 the team was only two seasons removed from winning a Super Bowl

Norv knows offense and QBs, but as a HC his teams are disorganized and underachieve. Very surprising move. Fire a traditionally average HC for a traditional failure as a HC.
