If you'd seen him play, you'd know that he sucks.

He does not suck... at all.

I haven't seen him play much, but I've seen enough to know the guy is capable of becoming a good player in the NFL. He's a bit weak in coverage, admittedly, but he can work on it and improve.

As said before, he appears to be a much more intense player than McCarthy.

Hey, I hope I'm wrong and McCarthy turns out to be better. I'd love that. I just don't see it happening.

Like I said, all I see from Matthews is straight-line speed. He makes little effort to make plays in coverage, just waits for the ball to be in someone's hands.

I'd argue Matthews is a lot more bark than bite in the "intensity" department. He gets pressures, but to be honest on most plays he's either getting blocked and giving up or getting up like he was the only one on the tackle when 3 other players were helping him. Colin McCarthy has made some huge plays and been deservedly amped, but when he's getting beat, he's still fighting. I've only seen Matthews TRY to fight off his blocks a few times in footage while McCarthy is always motoring towards the ball, even if he's 5 yards away from the play, he wants to get off his blocker and hit someone.

Matthews has a ceiling he's close to hitting. Considering he's a 4th rounder, that ceiling isn't much to hold out hope for. We got the better player.

If his name was Casey Johnson no one would care if we passed on him.

We took a guy who can play all three spots, is more explosive and produced better in college, except his name is McCarthy.

Stop saying that tired weak "If his name was/wasn't" garbage.

I couldn't care less about Bruce Matthews or any other Matthews. Casey is a player. PERIOD.

Saying he tackles like Ayers?? Not even close. He launches himself at guys. Ayers bends over and hopes the guy falls down.

In time... you'll see. I remember people saying Clay Matthews wasn't worth a first here last season. So this doesn't surprise me. People probably regurgitated the same "It's just 'cause he's a Matthews" nonsense then too.

Matthews runs in a straight line and throws himself at the ball carrier. Bad part is, sometimes he takes the wrong angle and throws himself out of the damn play. And if you put a blocker on him, 9 times out of 10 he gives up and watches the play.

Casey Matthews will essentially have to learn how to play LB in Philly. We don't have time for that.
