Here is one thing you got to remember. Being a cop is not just a job, it is a lifestyle. You have to be fully into it to be any good at it and then it can be a very rewarding and fullfilling career. If you are not fully dedicated to it, it will suck and drag you down after a while.

Oh, and by the way, as a police officer you can retire after 20 years.

Just in time for your kids to be grown, and your wife wanting a divorce because she has dealt with twenty years of emotional neglect

Just out of curiosity, what's the police education like in the US?

In Denmark you have to be 21, danish citizen (or applied for citizenship), passed high school and pass a physical and a written test (6 exercises).
Then there's 5 modules, rougly 8 months at the police academy, 7 months at a police district, 6 months academy, 7 months district and finally 8 months at the academy.

So you kill people. Might not be the best application to the police.
