How come at first they were reporting we had around $40mil in cap space.

Then it was closer to $30mil.

Then we cut Henry (saving us his $8mil bonus) and we have $26.5mil?

Who's reporting this stuff because there is a huge difference between $40mil nd $26.5mil.

Perhaps the bigger question is, why aren't we making good moves...?

i forget what they are called, but there is something like "unlikely to be achieved bonuses" that are calculated sometime after the season. our guys had something like $4 mil at the end of the year, one of the highest in the league.

then throw in the tenders from the restricted free agents, which would be about another $ 4 mil.

then the usual roster bonuses and such that guys get at this time of the year, i think that should account for everything.

wow I didn't think there was anything in the world Gut didn't know. :))

  4. well this sucks, that took like half of our money, but are other teams having the same thing happen to them?

  5. Back when we heard they had $35M-$40M free, they weren't counting in any new bonuses, incentives, or tender offers. We used about $15M of cap room on new bonuses for guys already under contract. Then we had the $4M+ in 2006 incentives that we had to account for. Then we spent $7M on tenders for RFAs and ERFAs.

So, in all, that's a difference of over $26M in 2007 cap room...

  6. does every team have to go thru the same thing?

  7. Yes and no. We had to give free agents a 2nd year bonus last year because we were up against the cap before trading McNair and because VY was the #3 pick. Not every team has to do that, and that was most of the difference. Not every team has to account for incentives (some save money the next year). And RFAs just depends on who teams have to tender.
