Can Titans take advantage of Pittsburgh’s injuries?

Here’s a report on the Steelers from colleague Josh Cooper:

With the Pittsburgh Steelers defense, sometimes it’s more about concepts than actual personnel. Defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau is a Hall of Famer, and as crafty as they come. But he’ll be without a couple of important pieces against the Titans on Thursday night at LP Field. Perennial Pro Bowl safety Troy Polamalu won’t play because of a right calf muscle injury, Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin said Monday. Ryan Mundy will likely fill in for Polamalu. Also outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley will be out due to a hamstring injury.

Titans Coach Mike Munchak preached caution on the injury front in regards to Pittsburgh’s defense. The Steelers beat the Titans 38-17 a year ago, without three starters on defense. One of these included linebacker James Harrison.

“I remember we went up there last year and they were missing a lot of players, and they beat us,” Munchak said Tuesday. “We don’t get caught up in any of that. We know they have good players showing up, and we just have to play our best to beat them.”

Plus, there’s LeBeau, who knows how to maximize various parts of his defense, despite injuries.

“They are well coached, they know their scheme, they know it well,” Titans quarterback Matt Hasselbeck said. “It’s not like they’re inventing something exotic for us, I’m sure. They’re very confident in what they do. They’re a team that lines up and plays their defense, and they just do it very well.”
