I don't think McNair wanted to play second fiddle, and he saw that coming...

Tulloch will be cheaper and if Keglar comes around then he could also start. I really do like Bulluck but he's starting to go down the hill.

Poor Steve. You are correct. Funny I was in a conversation a few days ago, on this very subject. Steve had restructured his contract every year he was with the Titans. So, basically, the year he was released, he was scheduled to count $23 million against the Titans' cap, at least that's what Bus and the Titans both claim. They couldn't afford to keep him. So what the Titans, in essence did was bend Steve over.

So the question is, will the Titans make a fair deal with Keith to keep him and also foster good vibes with the fans? It's every player's hope to retire from the team that drafted him. It would make for good business if the Titans allowed a popular player to stay with the team that drafted him. However, reality says expect the worse.

He was volun-told (sort of like being forced to volunteer) to restructure his contract, year after year to help the team. This created a hugh balloon payment that reached a crossroads. The Titans said, "yeah, um, about that big payment that you were promised, year after year, well.....see, what had happened was...." Savvy veteran players watch all this closely unfold and take note for when they lose a step. The team and fans expect blind loyalty to a team who doesn't blink an eye to cut or release you. Players have to get as much guaranteed money as they can, while they have bargaining leverage, otherwise, the team will kick you in the knutts.

So, this is the very reason that Albert is making the moves that he is making. Truth is, if he has a productive, but average year, the Titans will show him the door. They are banking on Albert not having a Pro Bowl year. The business side of the NFL is very messy.

I suppose the difference with Keith and Steve could be we will most likely have cap room when Keith's contract is up

The problem with Steve is that we were rebuilding and he had a big contract. Bulluck should stay for the rest of his career here.
