he might be a little more prone to injury, but i doubt it will effect his performance.

diabetes is very manageable if you monitor your diet, the big question is; is he insulin depend if he is then he has a tough road ahead. I feel for him but I have an Aunt that has lived with type 1 diabetes and she is now in her mid 50's and she is still going strong.

Although it seems manageable, there are very few high profile athletes with diabetes. There are a number of endurance and low profile athletes, but strangely, not too many high profile athletes. I think Echols has diabetes. Adam Morrison has it. So Cutler may be the big name in this whole thing. And that is kinda scary if true. It makes you scratch your head a little bit.

Being type one it probably will need to be managed with insulin either regular fast acting insulin for when it spikes too high and a long acting insulin like lantus to keep it stable. Probably both. Being an active professional athlete he has to worry about his sugar dropping too low so at practices and games they will have to keep some glucose gel available for those times.

It will take a year for him to get a handle on how to best manage it and then there is the psychological impact of knowing he has to live with this for the rest of his life and all the problems and complications that come with it. With type one his life expectancy just was reduced by about 10 years.

yeah, and then throw the beating pro football players take and you can probably take another five-10 away from that.
