Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt spent significant time in a variety of places – such as Nashville, Pensacola, Fla., and Los Angeles – during the past offseason.

But one area he didn’t spend as much time in was his home state of New Jersey.

That probably pleases plenty of Titans fans, as a large number of Britt’s brushes with the law have occurred in The Garden State.

So why did Britt, a Bayonne, N.J., native, spend so much time elsewhere?

“It was just to get away from everything and try something new in the offseason,” Britt said. “Just to get out there and get some fresh air because the New Jersey air is horrible, especially around my area. It stinks around there. My wife says it all the time because she’s from south Jersey and the air is a little cleaner there.”

Britt stuck with his workout regimen by training at Athletes’ Performance institutes in Gulf Breeze, Fla., and at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles.

It was while Britt was in Los Angeles that he and his wife visited a charity organization called The Dream Center, which finds and fills the needs of over 50,000 individuals and families each month – through mobile hunger relief, medical programs, residential rehab and transitional housing.

“When you’re having a hard time, it’s a free place to stay, free food, a free education,” Britt said. “They’ve really changed the area around there. It was an area where the crime rate was really high and they brought it down.”

Britt said he and his wife, Sabrina, wound up spending an entire day at The Dream Center.

“We met some of the adults there first, and they told us a couple of their stories,” Britt said. “Then we met the kids, played around with them little bit. We actually set up some drills for the kids and had some fun with them. It was nice.”

There’s already a Dream Center in Nashville, but Britt said he and his wife are interested in opening one for those in need in New Jersey.

“We wanted to go out there (to the Los Angeles Dream Center) and experience it while I was out there,” Britt said. “I wanted to get the feeling of what they do there, to get the feeling of what it would be like to start one up.”

Big year this year, then franchise tag him next year to force him into another good season and make a SB run.
