BOOK IT: Pollard Tore Achilles

The Kobe clip is pretty much how it goes. In my case for the first one, it was a simple lightly guarded jump shot in a pick up league in my mid 30s. The second was a simple flash to the outside wing without the ball in a YMCA pick up game. In both cases there was no warning...no soreness or problems leading up to it. You feel that someone has kicked you back there but of course, no one did.

When it happened to me the first time, it was a partial tear and I limped around on it for three days in denial. Partial tears are no different to complete tears as to the treatment (surgery), recovery regimen and outcome. The second time (with my other foot) I knew what happened before I hit the floor. And I knew the next year was really going to suck.
