Yeah I've heard that before ;) I'm getting a PS3 for myself, but I'll get my mom something like a Samsung BDP-1500 that's $200. This thread is about those cheaper players.

urr CDs are still here. 10 years ago they were and will be in 10 years still.

And again, Music downloads are feasible. Movies are not. Even if you think you can get it quicker than buying it. 99% of the world can't.

Don't forget once Blu-ray players are as cheap as DVD players (which they are getting there), people will buy one instead of DVD players.

Files are far more convenient than discs. And while yes, CDs are still here- they're barely hanging on. Who knows anyone that buys CDs today?
And it used to take hours to download music, too.

The future is a crazy thing! We'll have little portable things that play movies. They'll be the size of cell phones- smaller than plastic discs! It'll blow you away!

I actually know quite a few people who buy CD's still. Not quite sure why. I still havent got into the downloading movies. I rent movies ALL THE TIME. Soon enough though, maybe when NETFLIX gets all the new movies in D/L form I will do that on the 360.

And why on earth would you want to watch something on something so small?

Not sure, but people do it. Then you've got movies in vehicles. Be a lot easier to just stream HD movie content from a list than carry a bunch of discs around.

Plus, apple is going to make it happen. They could (and often do) polish a turd and people would drop everything to support it.

I still buy CDs. I had a couple of MP3 players during the end of high school and in college. There were advantages, but I've gone back to buying the CDs that I really like. I download some music, but if I'm paying for a whole album, I want an actual CD. I still have too many CD players... in my car, my wife's car, our house, etc...

Yes, digital downloading is getting bigger and bigger. But CDs will still be here for quite a while. Not everyone likes things clean and digital, particularly when the technology is changing faster than most people like to keep up.
