Something crazy just occured to me. While literally thousands of NFL players are fighting tooth and nail to make a roster spot, there are the Beau Brinkleys of the world, penciled in automatically it seems, as teams.... long snappers?!

From the Wild World of Wiki:

Brinkley played college football at the University of Missouri. In his four years at Missouri, he finished with 12 tackles. In his senior season, he recorded 5 tackles for the season. In his junior year, Brinkley was the team's long snapper for the third consecutive season. On April 30, 2012, Brinkley signed with the Tennessee Titans as an Undrafted free agent. On March 8, 2015, Brinkley signed a five-year contract extension with the Titans worth $5.75 million.

    Are you kidding me?!

    Dear son of Dangermode,
For the next 21 years you will embark on a journey to the easiest millionaire path on Earth. Every day, we will practice fifteen to twenty minutes, until you can throw a ball between your legs 10 feet with pinpoint accuracy. Trust me. You will thank me 21 years from now.

still gotta be genetically gifted enough to be 6ish feet and 250ish pounds ...

and they do want you to trot down field and plug a lane after a punt snap - the b*stards!

21-20 Titans in 4th quarter with 2 mins to go and we are punting the ball in our own 10 yard line. If that snap doesn't go according to plan, we could possibly lose this game.

There's situations where the snapper is really really important. These guys are getting a fraction of what other NFL players make, therefore I see nothing wrong in a 5 year $5 million contract.

Way more pressure on them than you think.

Trouble with becoming a long snapper is if youre any good at any other spot on the field youre not being a long snapper

When Brinkley was out in the last game, his backup made a bad snap and then missed his block, resulting in a blocked punt for a safety. The ball just barely went out of the back of the end zone, otherwise it would have been a touchdown instead of a safety. This illustrates why it's so important to have a reliable snapper.

And you may want to ***** about it, but long snapping actually isn't as easy as you think. I did it through high school and into my JC years.

Are those the years where you fade into mediocrity and begin to exaggerate all your previous "accomplishments"?

Oh I was thinking of the JCB years. My bad.
