The sources I've read say he is not considering retirement at all. So if no one wants him as a starter than I think he still continues to play as a role player/backup.

OK, so how many HOF level players stay a few extra seasons just to be back up / role players? Urlacher is in the middle of contact negotiations and certainly isn't going to submit to the fact he is nothing more than a role player. If he doesn't get re-signed by the Bears he will be out looking to sign with a team that has a starting role with starting money. And teams aren't going to bother with him thinking he could be a nice bench guy.
