Titans coach Mike Munchak didn’t rule out the possibility of safety Jordan Babineaux maintaining his starter’s role this weekend against Houston, but he didn’t guarantee it either.

Babineaux has started each of the Titans’ last nine contests, but he was benched for a large portion of the second half during Sunday’s loss to Jacksonville after Cecil Shorts III made a 59-yard touchdown catch. Babineaux said after the game that he took a bad angle on the play, allowing Shorts to cut inside him and score untouched.

From that point on, Michael Griffin moved into Babineaux’s strong safety position and Robert Johnson took over at free safety.

“Things weren’t working the way (defensive coordinator Jerry Gray) wanted and (Babineaux) knows how it is,” Munchak said. “We’re looking to get a spark or make a play, to get off the field. It’s not all on (Babineaux) by any means. It’s just a matter of finding a way.”

Where does Babineaux stand now as the Titans look ahead?

“He’s fine,” Munchak said. “He’s obviously a big part of our team, on special teams and on the defensive side. We’ll just have to see what the plan is for using him.”

Sadly Babineaux has turned into Chris Hope. Was once a great safety, but is now 1 dimensional and gets beat half the time. Time for him to let go of the idea of starting. His cap hit is $1.6M next year, is that back-up money?

As long as he isn't the starter next year
