They did win a national championship which is really what it is all about.
I wish the Titans would throw us a bone once every 40 or so years. We haven't won jack since the merger. I'm not mad because another team had the success my team wishes it had. How much harder is it to win the National Championship than the Super Bowl??? Infinitely harder. The Titans have yet to be the best team out of around 30 since the merger, and teams like USC find ways to be the best out of many more.
I wouldn't mind a bronze statue of Donnie Nickey the day after we win the Super Bowl. Heck, I would help build it.
Why erect a statue? After the NCAA comes in and takes away their national championship and they scrub the record books...I wanna participate in this..
First, in my opinion there never been a true national champion in college football. Just someone's opinion of who the best team is.
Money decides championships in college football. This is why TCU had no chance. Anyone find it crazy Newton was found ineligible to play only to be reinstated a few hours later? NCAA saw dollar signs in Newton and another SEC team playing for the national title.
College football championships seem so pointless to me. I think TCU could have beaten Auburn or Oregon. The entire situation with Auburn and Newton made me sick. They didn't deserve to be there. I guess I (like most people) never payed any attention to Auburn until I moved down here. Auburn has to be one of the dirtiest programs in the country.
The statue thing is a pissing contest with Alabama. Alabama puts up statues so Auburn does the same. Auburn has been playing catch up with Alabama for decades.
3 undefeated seasons.
1 national title in a down year for the SEC.
1 year couldn't play for it due to being dirty.
1 year not playing for it because seriously. Auburn? Who cares.
Could have been 3 titles in 20 but its Auburn. Nobody cared.
If they did scrub it, It doesn't change the fact that they played for, and almost unquestionably earned the title. You can take away Reggie Bush's Heisman, but does that mean VY deserves it? Nope. As much as I don't like Newton, he earned the NCAA championship.
Umm.. there was no champion in 2004? The championship was vacated.
But the team who wins the championship game knows "who won" even though it is not in the books.
Who cares who wins the NCAA's faux championship?
They were not the best. They just happen to beat the team that played that day.
I love my University but seriously only view college football as a minor league for my beloved NFL.
It's not even that.
They run offenses that are 100% not NFL friendly, making it damn near impossible to project a player's success in the league. There are guys who will be first round picks going against guys who are going to be accountants.
I really wish the NFL would institute a two year rule instead of three and let guys go to an NFL farm system for two years if need be, so they can actually be developed.
I hate almost everything about college football except the actual playing of the game. The ranking system is garbage. The recruiting system is corrupt. The entire system is all about the money grab.
