Kid played lights out as a Rookie! Big loss for the 9ers, their LB corps have been depleted

They should've known all of this already.

I didn't need scientific research to tell me that repeatedly being hit in the head for a career is not good for you and your future health.

It's unfortunate that former players are the culprits of this movement... They are mostly just broke whiners looking for another pay day... most of them exaggerate health issues to increase the paycheck.

I'm sorry to those who experience trauma such as CTE due to playing football as a career, but that was a choice. If you didn't have the common sense to realize it could be an issue, then that's on you IMO.

Might sound cold, but it is what it is. I hope all athletes who experience these health issues are appropriately compensated and treated, but I hate that many apparently didn't understand this health issue going in. You signed up for it. C'mon.

Doesn't the NFL already take care of its veterans who experience these issues? If not, then that should be addressed.

And Goodell and his $100+ mil net worth should sack up and give some of that out to those who really need it.

I wanted us to draft him. The Niners are going to be a disaster this season.

All these guys retiring young almost seems like a silent protest to the NFL.

I wonder if this may be problem for teams in the future...Having an investment in an individual just be wiped away in moments. It has got to be hard to recover from a blow like that as a team.

I, along with many, called this. Beginning of the end of the NFL as it stands today.

I... Disagree. Another sport where this head trauma movement has come full swing (just because of football) is wrestling.

I coach now, and we have to go through a training course for recognizing health hazards, including this.

When I was in high school, I probably got 3-4 concussions.

It certainly wasn't blatently obvious to me then that this was a health risk going for the rest of my life.

You get smacked hard in your knee, you shake it off and move on. You get smacked hard on the head, you shake it off and move on.

I certainly don't remember anyone quitting with the reasoning "Sorry coach, this might give me CTE in 40 years."

If the dangers were that obvious I certainly didn't know anyone who was aware of them.

And this was only 6 or so years ago.

Well when you have high profile cases such as Seau and Belcher, the league has to do more than just make them sign a waiver.

I think this is going to be a big problem for the league going forward.

Borland is a smart guy. He realized the risk and felt it wasn't worth it. I'm sure he will be successful in whatever he does.
