If a runner is attempting to score a touchdown, if ANY of the ball makes it into the endzone it's a TD.

Similarly, if ANY part of the ball comes out of the endzone, it's NOT a safety. There is NO WAY this was a safety.

Flacco was not out of bounds in his endzone either, and the playclock was at 0 for 2 seconds on "the play."

Bad calls happen, but ones that change the outcome of a game are unfortunate. Nothing anyone can do now except try to improve the current system. I hope that happens, it wouldn't be hard to do. Many great suggestions already posted in a few different threads.

3 threads started about the same damn thing. Ravens fans who like to beat a dead horse, get lost already.

But FWIW, looks like PFFFFFT is wrong (again) about the extra down thing. As far as the spot of the ball on the safety, I don't know the specific rule.

Thanks for not taking the post the wrong way; I'm not looking to stir things up any more than they are.

My understanding is that the article is correct in saying that the ball has to be completely past the line of scrimmage to avoid a safety. I will look it up for a definitive answer.

As for the officiating in general, I think everyone can agree it has been ridiculous all season long, and has affected far too many games (one is too many).

Ok, here it is, in the NFL rulebook:

    http://www.nfl.com/rulebook/safety2

So the ball cannot be touching the goal line. If it is, it's a safety. The picture in the article, while a little blurry, I think shows that the ball was on the line.

Now, I do realize that we should have challenged it, and it is our fault for not doing so.

But, I'm merely trying to demonstrate that Tennessee also had a huge call go their way; much more significant than a possible delay of game that at worst would have resulted in a manageable third-and-7 had it been called.

This is incorrect all the carrier has to do is break the plane. If any part of the ball crosses the goal line it IS NOT a safety

Dude...you should SO be worrying about the Steelers putting you guys to sleep and NOT trying to make some case for why the officials "didn't" suck on Saturday.

So you're saying that the NFL rulebook is wrong?
