If it's your stuff, you're responsible. That's something everyone has to learn. Don't make excuses or blame someone else for things that you own. It's your gear, you gotta keep track of it. End of story.

Forgive your friend. Not worth a broken friendship over damn hockey gear...

The only way I could see the friend being financially responsible for the gear would be if there was a very clear arrangement for them to secure the stuff and bring it in. Otherwise I think you get stuck with the loss. If this is a good friend of yours it is worth it to forget the incident and move on - knowing that you can't trust him to be responsible for your stuff.. 10 years from now this just be a funny story - unless things spiral out of control and it turns into a bloodbath:))

See even then, if there was a direct understanding that he was supposed to take the stuff in, even then he still shouldn't technically HAVE to pay. It would have been the right thing to do, but not grudge-worthy. Now, if you payed him to bring it in or something (that's kinda odd though), alright, he better pay up...

Well since werebeen playing hockey for the 3+ years, when someone leaves early, or something gets left out, either one of the two brothers, or me(bc im usually teh last one to lave) gets it, I guees i tohught common sense would step in as he walked by my gear knowing i wasnt there

We keep all our gear in his garage ne ways cuz he lives across teh street

I hear ya.. and I'd be royally pissed in your situation. The guy definitely deserves a stomp on the foot but when it comes to replacing the gear it gets a little sticky esp since they're already refusing to do so...

So are you sure he was completely sure that your gear needed to be picked up or that it was even there? Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but it's sounds like it wasn't a very clear point you made when you left.

If it was a clear point, I'd be pissed. Depending on how the guy acted now (despite whether he repaid you for the stuff) is what would make a difference in the friendship.

Your stuff is ultimately your responsability, but I wouldn't finish that statement by saying "period". If you trust your friend and asked him to take care of it, then it's plain crappy on his part if he didn't.

Me and my friends have done similar things many times, usually with no problems because my friends are pretty good guys and repect me as I repect them.

if he lives across the street, why coudn't you go take the gear and put it in his garage yourself ?
reminds me of when I was a kid and I left my Haro Freestyle BMX at a friends house while I went for a joyride with some other friends .... went I went back a few days later it was gone - that was my fault - regardless of whether or not he was SUPPOSED to put it up for me
