I think Smith will be better than any other option they have (basically any QB in the draft) but I'd be a bit concerned if I were Chief fans

Ha. Another OC for Smith. Makes it, what, 6 in 7 years?

It really sucks that he got benched when playing so good and trading him might really come back to bite the '9ers in the arse. I actually like Smith, think he was thrown in a really bad situation with all those coaching changes. On top of that, he is a class act. If all it costs is a 4th rounder for him, I would be MORE than willing to trade for him.

The reason I said it might be a bad idea for the 9ers, is that as with any 'new' QB/system, its actually much easier to have success early on as there is little footage for teams to game plan against you. Also, its only a matter of time before NFL defenses catch on to the 'Chip Kelly/pistol/read-option' offenses and find a way to negate it.

In the end I'd rather have a precision passer than a guy who makes things happen with his legs. Too much injury risk there for one, but more importantly till now all the SB winning guys (Mannings, Brady, Brees, Rodgers, etc...) are accurate gun slingers who use their legs as more of a back-up or for a random/key/unexpected first down.

I mean even Big Ben (the most recent 'mobile' QB to win a SB) is known to use his legs to get away from the rush and extend plays to find guys down-field, more so than actually taking off with it....

Till one of these guys like RG/Cam/Jake (lol) prove me wrong, I will prefer a QB in the mold of those guys listed above...

Note - I'm not saying Kap is a bad QB or inaccurate, I've actually been impressed with a lot of his throws. But I honestly feel those 'college' style offenses create bigger windows for passes. If you watch closely when running the option, both LBs and backend coverage guys often either lag for a second or over-pursue , and all of a sudden there is a guy flying underneath/on-top (relatively) wide open... We'll just have to wait and see how NFL D's respond to these O's in the coming couple years....

Alex Smith to the Chiefs huh.... Well thats not too surprising, I had a feeling since last week that KC would trade for a QB instead of drafting one. None of these rookies are that impressive at this point.

What is the asking price for Flynn and Foles? I know Philly wants a 1st for Foles, but they can't be serious.

Guess the Eagles won't be getting a first round pick for Foles.........

Does not matter. Chiefs do not draft QBs high.

I doubt they got Smith for a 4th round pick; Kevin Kolb fetched a 2nd round pick and DRC.

Also, I think the Eagles will trade Foles to the Browns for a 2nd.

You nailed it. No QB is worth the #1 pick this year, or even a 1st round pick tbh. Take Joeckel and protect your QB. Alex Smith is a game-manager and has multiple years of starting exp, he looked decent w/ Harbaugh at HC (thanks to a dominant D and OL). Chiefs have weapons (Bowe, Charles). I wouldn't even take a QB this year, Alex Smith can be your starter for a couple years. I'm sure Andy Reid will use a 3rd on a QB to develop, Nick Foles style.

Kolb was coming off 1011 yards & 6 TDs in 4 starts and was 25 years old. He had upside. Alex Smith, you know what you're getting.

Speaking of Kolb, I wonder if the Cards will cut him. I'd hold out and maybe sign Kolb and keep my draft picks.
