Honestly I have no idea why they gave up the exclusivity considering their historical partnership with Sony.

I have no doubt Microsoft have thrown money at them. They've released big games in Japan (Star Ocean, Last Remnant & Tales of Vesperia) exclusively or timed exclusively on the 360 where it is completely dead in Japan.

You look at a PS3 exclusive jRPG White Knight Chronicles which sold heaps in Japan and I can't help but think the PS3 versions of the 3 games above would also sell heaps on the PS3.

im not really worried about ms in japan. it may take them 20-25 years to gain some ground. imo they just have to stay their long enough that when the next generation of kids grow up they will have known the xbox brand their whole life. MS cannot go in and sell to teens and adults that knows MS history and knows they are just there to make money and try and kill Sony and Nintendo. MS has to grow with the generations over there to become a house hold name. And they have to stop launching consoles in Japan with gears of war and halo. they need a big name like FF to launch with the next system.

MS won't be around in 20 - 25 years selling consoles if there current rate of losses go.

The Japanese are loyal, they won't switch and regardless handhelds are where they are going.
MS in Japan will never happen as long as Sony and Nintendo are there.
