I'd offer him that 5 year/$60mil deal, and if he laughed in my face I'd know he's not a guy I'd want on the team because he'd be a douche to turn down $12mil a year.

That Charles Johnson contract was just dumb.

Why wouldn't he turn down 12 million per year when he can get 15? My only concern would be his level of play going down once he gets a big guaranteed deal.

I don't see how people are grasping at straws. The Titans have the 2nd most cap space to work with, that alone is enough to signify that we have "a shot at signing him." There's every reason to believe that we will at least make an offer and test out the market for him.

I definitely see where you're coming from though, knowing how our FO works. His asking price & willingness of his suitors to pay it may drive us away. CJ and Haynesworth may make them think twice about giving someone a gigantic contract too.

Also, don't cut Witherspoon. If we're planning on letting Finnegan walk, Witherspoon is one of the only leaders left on the defense. We need some vet presence.

Totally agree. I hate when teams sign guys to those stupid deals. It totally f***s up the market for the really great players and makes it almost impossible to get them to agree to reasonable deals.

To be honest, I didn't even know who he was until espn splattered the news about his big contract they offered him. :geek:

Just shows you how much I pay attention to other teams besides the Titans.

If he can get a $15mil per year contract, good for him, but I sure as hell wouldn't want to pay him that. We could at least offer him a big deal. $12mil per year is no joke. Worth a shot.

I barely knew who he was... Only reason I did is because he had a good season in 2010.

So I'm pretty much right there with you, but I feel I do pay attention to all teams.

What's the point in offering him a contract that he will just turn down? Whether or not you think the Charles Johnson contract is dumb doesn't matter. The market is set.

The Titans have to decide whether they are prepared to break the bank and make Williams the highest paid defensive player in the league or whether they will pursue other options. I really don't see any middle ground.

Top shelf talent costs money. There's not enough elite DE's out there to draw the price down.

The Titans have always used and abused their defensive lineman. For 5 years Jevon Kearse was an incredible bargain. He ends up walking and gets a $65M deal from the Eagles but was never the same in Philly. Then the same exact thing happens with Haynesworth in Washington, and today he's also out of work. Nothing the Titans have ever done says they'll offer anyone anything north of $50M. Steve McNair never got $50M from the Titans. That Chris Johnson extension was dumb at $53M, they shouldn't have paid for past services which is exactly what they did.

Point being, I have no faith we'll get anyone like Osi or Mario, but wishful thinking never hurt right...
