This is a recurring thing that I see though...weather is not occurring unless it is happening on the east coast (the blizzards we have in WI are a non event in the news, when one hits the east coast it is headline news for days). Why should this be different?

Now I understand about the increased intensity due to the location, BUT, two days of top line story...give me a break!

Why would he run off, he's probably in the safest place...unless the Earth opens up.

Wisconsin, Minnesota etc Blizzards are expected and more frequent. Winter 09-10 we had a decent snow storm, but besides that the only blizzards I've lived through on the East Coast were '96 (actually an icestorm) and '92, although I don't remember the latter.

So, what is your point? Doesn't make it less hazardous to the residents. Just less newsworthy since the major networks don't live there. And it is not just blizzards...hot weather never happens unless it is also happening in NY or the east coast either.

There's a lot more people watching the news along the east coast than there is in the upper mid-west, and they want to know what's going on around them, so what's your point?
That you have east coast envy, or may be a midwest inferiority complex??

    that is true.

take the NY, NY power outage from what last spring? 24x7 coverage of power being down. I mean my daddy went without power for all but a month and CNN never once put a remote unit in his driveway - lol

It is the same with sports. ANY NY, NY team does well and that team gets shoved down our throats. From Rutgers to the NY football Giants. From the Mets to the Islanders. Any of 'their' local teams do well and it is National news.

Of course this is one of the many reasons I limit my TV news input.
