That's the amount of points our defense actually gave up in 2012, which ranks 26th overall. Might not seem much better, but perhaps that's why Munchak is holding onto Gray? 42 total points came directly from turnovers our defense had no control over. Now obviously every defense is susceptible to this happening. QB throws a lob, CB breaks on it and runs it back for a TD in turn making the D look worse than it may be.
26th is still horrible. Total defense: 27th Passing defense: 26th Rushing defense: 24th Scoring defense: 32nd There is simply no justifiable reason to keep Gray around. The only positive thing to look at is that we ranked top 10 in sacks and interceptions, but I'd credit other coaches like Bush (who Munchcock fired) for that.
With a few weeks left in the season, we had given up several more returns for touchdowns than any team but the Eagles. I will say that the first few weeks were bad, but the defense was serviceable from that point on.
I did some stat work on 50+ yd drives because those points certainly go against the defense. In the first 8 games we gave up 35 drives of 50+ yards. In the last 8 games we gave up 19 drives of 50+ yards. So that certainly looks like major improvement, but then you have to consider that we played the Jags twice, Jets, and Fins in our last 8 games and those offenses will help out any defenses stats.
Exactly. We had 4 games vs. bottom 10 offenses in our last 7, not included the Colts (who are average on O) and the Texans who took the foot off the pedal for an entire second half. The other game we gave up 55.... yeah Jerry you suck.
