Ayers would make a good 3-4 OLB.. because he sucks as a traditional 4-3 LB.

His only real strong suit is rushing the QB.. so we should let him do that.

I expect to see us in a 3-4 as our base defense. Not all 3-4 defenses are designed alike. You can have a 1 gap 3-4 or a 2 gap 3-4. Wiz has ruled out the 2 gap type of 3-4 where the main job of the 3 DL is to occupy all the gaps and not really worry about getting QB pressure. I think this makes sense to not go this route when one of our best DL is a solid penetrating type of guy in Casey. But even if you play more 1 gap 3-4 you still need to have some beef at NT and solid ILbers.

Although a pass rushing type is certainly a major possibility at #11 I wouldn't rule out a MLber if their is anyone remotely close to Patrick Willis type skills available.

    Free Agents:
NT: Terrence Cody (backup plan: Cam Thomas)
ILB: Donald Butler (backup plan: Brandon Spikes)

    Re-Sign:
    Alterraun Verner
    Ropati Pitoitua
    Bernard Pollard

    Draft:
1st Round: Khalil Mack, OLB, Buffalo
5th Round: Justin Ellis, NT, LA Tech

Pretty heavy spending on the defense. The free agents won't be very expensive, but resigning Verner will be. Make the necessary cuts and we can easily afford to retain these players. We need to find a QB, unless we're set on giving Locker one more year. Other than QB, RT, and potentially RB our offense is good (other than depth). Use 2nd/4th on either a RT, RB, or QB.

    DE: Casey, Pito, Klug, Martin
    NT: Cody, Ellis
    OLB: Mack, Ayers, Morgan, Gooden
    MLB: Butler, Brown, McCarthy
    CB: McCourty, Verner, Sensabaugh, Wreh-Wilson
    S: Griffin, Pollard, Wilson

I would be excited with that as our defense. That easily has Top-10 potential.

Brown not physical enough to play ILB. Definitely not in 3-4. JMO.

Fokou would be ok at ILB in 3-4, he's smart and physical, just slow. But hiding him in the middle could cover that up a little.

No. It wouldn't. He would get plowed in the 34.

You basically need guys Ayers size in the middle. At least one of them. And the other a good speed guy like brown.

They take on more blocks in the 34 remember... Size factors into the long haul when big OL are mauling your guys every play trying to spring a run.

If Horton is brought in to run the D looks like a 3-4 will be the new look for the Titans. Time for changes - I like it

Horton is big on the 3-4, hope him & Whisenhunt can agree on a hybrid look.

I've been wanting a 3-4 defense for a while (assuming we had the personnel), but admittedly I am not as familiar with 3-4 and I do not know exactly where our front 7 would stand.

It would certainly create huge needs at NT and LB.

So I take it we are cutting Hill?

Do not think Klug makes the team if we go 3-4. He gets pushed around way too much for a 3-4 DE and will not get big enough. His only strength is slipping past the lineman. His biggest weakness is when he has to stand in and not get pushed around on run D. Which is essential for a 3-4 DE to be good at.
