Quanterus Smith is a guy I want to look at in the later rounds has a good game against Alabama.
I'd be fine with that. I like Lavar Edwards from LSU, too. He's their 3rd DE behind Mingo and Montgomery.
I'm not near as sold on some of the big name DEs this year.
Exactly. I don't see what everyone else sees in him.. didn't impress me.
This draft seems deep in the secondary and offensive line department. I wouldn't be upset if we did what the 49ners did a few years ago grab a couple offensive lineman early than go defensive the rest of the draft.
Sounds good to me. We could use a Center and a Guard to help out immediately. Then next year draft replacement for Hutchinson and start getting some offensive tackles since Roos and Stewart can't play forever.
I like alot of these hybrid (guys who played more than one position) offensive lineman coming out in this years draft
Barrett Jones who has played left tackle, guard, and center
Dallas Thomas started out at left tackle and now plays guard
Travis Frederick is another guard turned center he compares to his former teammate Zeitler and will likely play guard in the NFL
Braden Hansen Been a started since his freshman year played guard for 3 and moved to center this year
Theirs a lot more who played tackle and moved to guard, but right now we need to worry about the interior part of the line. Barrett Jones being the ideal pick but isn't worth that early of a pick in the first, and probably won't make it to us in the 2nd round. Frederick and Hansen would be good options in the later rounds if we don't get one of the higher profile guys.
After watching this FSU game consider me on the Werner bandwagon.
Werner is great, loved the patience on his interception........ but Matt Elam is the complete SS and would be difficult to pass on considering the issues we have there. Anywhere from 10 on the pick needs to be Elam for me.
Matt Elam is my favorite safety in this draft, he is the most complete on of them all and has been the most consistent safety this year. Their is a lot to love from both prospects.
Did a little research on Werner though he is an interesting guy. Didn't play football until he was 15 came over from Germany and played as a sophomore got home sick went back to Germany and played for a club. He did come back to play his senior year. He is relatively inexperienced yet and can still grow as a player. When he started his career at FSU he was a back-up his freshman but saw the field a good bit. Something that should be noted is when he was playing as a freshman he had a tore torn meniscus in his knee and waited until after the season to get surgery. He is also already married, he should be more mature than the average rookie and should be able to avoid trouble I think this says a lot about the type of player Werner can become, seems more like a tough old score throwback player. I don't expect him to be a double digit sack guy at the next level; I can see him being a tough run defender who gets a ton of pressure though.
