17 DUIs on ProFootballTalk's police blotter + the Josh Brent incident... so we will say 18. As it was reported today, Jay Ratliff, teammate of Josh Brent just got a DUI less than 90 days after his teammate killed another teammate. Luckily no one was hurt although Ratliff ran into an 18 wheeler while intoxicated. It's time for Goodell to get tough on DUI arrests. It's completely hypocritical for him to go on this crusade about player safety and concussions when you have guys out there killing people after they leave the bar at 3am completely tanked. Stallworth, Brent... It's not "If" there is another tragedy, unfortunately, it is "When" unless goodell gets tough on this issue. In addition to any criminal charges, I don't know why Goodell doesn't institute a mandatory 4-6 game suspension for a DUI conviction? I think that sends the message without stepping on the toes of the legal process. I don't know any player that would willingly give up a 3rd of their season for one night of drinks. I could be wrong but the first guy to get busted would really send a message to the rest of the league.
