17 DUIs on ProFootballTalk's police blotter + the Josh Brent incident... so we will say 18.

As it was reported today, Jay Ratliff, teammate of Josh Brent just got a DUI less than 90 days after his teammate killed another teammate. Luckily no one was hurt although Ratliff ran into an 18 wheeler while intoxicated.

It's time for Goodell to get tough on DUI arrests. It's completely hypocritical for him to go on this crusade about player safety and concussions when you have guys out there killing people after they leave the bar at 3am completely tanked. Stallworth, Brent... It's not "If" there is another tragedy, unfortunately, it is "When" unless goodell gets tough on this issue.

In addition to any criminal charges, I don't know why Goodell doesn't institute a mandatory 4-6 game suspension for a DUI conviction? I think that sends the message without stepping on the toes of the legal process. I don't know any player that would willingly give up a 3rd of their season for one night of drinks. I could be wrong but the first guy to get busted would really send a message to the rest of the league.

That's part of the problem. The NFL is so concerned about "Tarnishing the shield" that they don't want to address this issue head on because it casts the league in a bad light. Most of the time, you hear about a DUI on the sports ticker at the bottom of the NFLN or espn.. and many of the guys getting DUIs are top tier guys.

Josh Brent got a lot of coverage and outrage because he killed a teammate. I think we should have that same outrage even if no one dies.

I guess it's really not a huge deal in the NFL, because it's really not that big of a deal in real life. Now, I am in no way saying it's not a big deal, but I am more inclined to say that because it seems like everyone and their Mom drink and drive these days. Sad, but true.

That's the reason why there is very little outrage about DUI's in the NFL.

I have a pretty big issue with DUI's, I would be all for half a season ban if found guilty. Even if it meant losing a key player of our own.

I have a pretty big issue with it simply because it could be me on the receiving end.

I have no tolerance when it comes to DUIs, but I have to say it's extremely easy to get them because .08 is an absolute joke... that's like 4 beers and the slightest buzz... unless you're a woman. But drunk women drivers are probably better than sober women drivers because it would have the inverse effect on them.

Well that would explain why Foster's is so watered down.
