Tight end Jared Cook’s five-year deal with the Rams is valued at $35.1 million.

That’s a $7.02 million average per year. He could make up to $38.5 million in incentives as part of the deal.

As part of the contract, Cook receives $19 million in guarantees, which is 54 percent of the contract. The deal puts him among the top five highest paid tight end in the league (average per year), at least for now.

The Titans initially planned to retain Cook with the franchise tag, but opted not to take on the looming fight with an arbitrator over whether he should be paid as a tight end or a receiver. The one-year deal would’ve ended up costing the team either $6.066 million (tight end) or $10.537 (receiver) for one season.

The Titans on Tuesday agreed to a four-year deal with former 49ers tight end Delanie Walker, a deal that averages $4.375 million per year.

    Per rotoworld.com

"Jared Cook's five-year contract with the Rams has a maximum value of $38.5M and includes $19M guaranteed.

The Titans couldn't find a way to use Cook, but the Rams (and others) were willing break the bank for him. His average annual salary currently ranks sixth among tight ends in the league, behind only Rob Gronkowski, Antonio Gates, Vernon Davis, Jason Witten and Aaron Hernandez. It's a huge chunk of cash for a player that has single-season career-highs of 49 receptions and four touchdowns, but it speaks to his unique upside. The Rams are going to make sure Cook's 6'5/248 frame and 4.4 wheels are heavily involved in their offense.

Somehow I don't think Fisher learned much in his year away from the game.

We will probably get Walker and Sammie Lee Hill both for the price of Cookies contract. I'll take that 8 days a week.

....And this is how you overpay a player. Cook has done absolutely nothing to warrant such a contract.

I think we are moving away from passing TEs. I think we are gonna run packages with 4 wr if we want more pass heavy plays. I think the signs are there.

So basically the rams are payin him like a Gronk, Graham, Gates, Gonzalez, Witten...

But he has the production of a Jacob Tammee.

Eventually you can't pay a player solely off potential when he has little production to show for that.
