Titans coach Mike Munchak said the decision to insert strong safety Jordan Babineaux into the starting lineup, move Michael Griffin to free safety and remove Robert Johnson from the starting lineup was made Friday.

But Munchak cautioned the move isn’t necessarily a permanent one, saying that Babineaux and Johnson could be moved in and out of the lineup based on match-ups with the opposition.

“I think it’s going to be a weekly thing,” Munchak said. “It’s going to be, `This is how we think is the best way to start this game.’ Here’s what we’re doing going forward.”

Munchak said he doesn’t think the possibility of switching starting safeties will affect the chemistry between the players.

“Babineaux and Griffin played together before,” Munchak said. “They played all of last year. They know each other well, so we’re not as concerned for that.

“Johnson came in and played about 20-25 snaps, so he’s still part of what we’re doing. It’s not like he’s going to sit on the bench for a while.”

As for how back from the line of scrimmage the Titans’ safeties played, Munchak said the tandem was especially deep yesterday to prevent the possibility of the Detroit receivers – especially Calvin Johnson – making the home-run touchdown catch.

But Lions quarterbacks still piled up 450 passing yards and three touchdowns.

“I think yesterday was a different kind of game because of that. I think we were playing deeper because of the receivers we were playing against,” Munchak said. “It worked … to me, most of the game until (the end) we held them to five field goals. We didn’t give up the big plays.

“That to me was huge for our defense, that we got off the field on third downs. They were 25 percent conversion on third down, which was a big difference than our other games. We made some stops to get off the field and save four points per drive when they did drive the ball.”

I like this move put both in there real position, but I hope grey don't have both play back 40 yards back and let them play near ten to twenty yards from line of scrimmage

    No more Robert Johnson please.

As a matter of fact, axe everyone named Johnson, they all suck!

I don't buy this. I think Munch just doesn't want to admit publicly that he/they made a mistake.

How about we scrap the "mustang" prevent defense that nearly cost us the game. We are not getting to them with four, so lets try 3. Looks like cecil is still calling the defenses

    Yea, there's just no way.

Let's bench Babineaux after we finally get a win (with Babs over Johnson) after gulping D for two weeks! Great logic!
