With every big run and momentum-changing run he records, Darius Reynaud is pushing himself more into the 53-man roster picture. But it won’t be a simple decision. It would seem unlikely, but not unthinkable, that the Titans would keep four running backs – Chris Johnson, Javon Ringer, Jamie Harper and Reynaud.

“It would depend on where you get that spot,” coach Mike Munchak said Saturday. “That’s the depth (question) you look at. Is it a defensive back (that gets cut)? Is it a defensive lineman? A linebacker? The ninth or 10thoffensive lineman? It’s just a matter of who’s going to help us win on Sundays.”

Munchak said whichever running backs make the roster have to find other ways to contribute, since Johnson will likely get the vast majority of carries.

“We have to be able to find a way to use him,” Munchak said. “Do you need three backs (playing on Sunday)? Why would you suit up three? Is Jamie Harper going to play on special teams or is Ringer going to play or (Reynaud)? You have to figure out how they can contribute on Sunday. You can’t have too many guys contributing if they’re not starting.”

Munchak noted that Harper has some experience at fullback, and is willing to play there more often than he has. That would seem to lead to the possibility the Titans might save a roster spot by going without Quinn Johnson or Collin Mooney.

“(Harper) got a couple snaps yesterday at (fullback),” Munchak said. “He also did that last year in some practices for some emergencies … That’s a possibility. The more he can do the better. So we’re going to kind of put him in that spot every so often. It gets him on the field more and we’ll see how he can handle it.”

Ringer has carved out his niche as a third-down back, a good pass protector who also has good hands. But Munchak said Harper could probably handle those responsibilities if needed.

“I don’t think (Ringer’s) that much ahead of (Harper),” Munchak said of the third-down role. “I think that’s the challenge. That’s the competition. That’s the other problem with preseason games in camp is getting all these guys reps to see what they can or can’t do. (But) I would think they’re both capable of doing that. I think Jamie understands the protection pretty well. He’s obviously a big guy who can block.”

There’s also the possibility that Reynaud — who’s averaging 44 yards on three punt returns and has returned a kickoff 42 yards – could take over Marc Mariani’s role (and possibly his roster spot). But with Kenny Britt likely to miss the first few weeks of the season, it’s hard to envision the Titans parting ways with a receiver who has experience in the system.

It depends on how well either Harper or Reynaud know/learn blocking schemes and are productive in short yardage. Point being, Ringer does both fairly well.

I was trying to find his pre-season stats last year with the Giants but it seems he didn't play. According to Wiki he was cut on Sept 3, but I couldn't find anything on his play in pre-season last season.
    He might have been injured?

reynaud is not playing vs first or second team defenses.

Ringer Did pretty well last preseason and regular season but now people are giving up on him for no reason.

I want reyaud on the team but to return punts and play special teams he clearly beat Mariani.

DR ability too pick up blitzes will put him on the team or not.

Having said that I would cut Harper in a second. Cant be that big and play that soft. drop that shoulder and make the tackler pay

Ringer is nothing special. There are RBs of his talent working at Walmarts across this great nation.

I don't get this Ringer was good last year crap. He was not good. He had an atrocious run blocking line and fullback last year, but he was pretty bad regardless. Harper has looked better than Ringer 2 preseasons in a row now while running like a softy.

only thing good about Ringer in 2011 was that he was not making CJ $s

other than that he blew his shot IMO

Maybe Reynaud can have a Priest Holmes revitalization.. Holmes came out of nowhere to be the best RB in the NFL when nobody saw it coming. I sure do miss watching Holmes.
