Exactly one year ago today cornerback Ryan Mouton was carted off the field at Baptist Sports Park with a torn Achilles tendon. He had surgery and spent the entire year on injured reserve. His long and grueling rehab process then began.

On Monday, the fourth-year pro showed just how far he’s come. He was one of the stars on the third day of training camp. The third-round pick in 2009 intercepted two passes, including one when he leaped to pick off quarterback Rusty Smith.

“Of course it helps boost your confidence, but you can’t base your camp after one day,” Mouton said. “It’s a long camp, and I’m sure there were some bad plays I have to correct.”

Mouton also said he feels like he’s 100 percent healthy.

“When the injury first happened it was a long process with the rehab. When I first started walking again it was like I was learning how to walk again. To be able to be back out there with the guys to make a few plays, it feels great,” he said. “But I have to be consistent in camp. You can come out here and have a day like this, but you can’t go backward and have a horrible day. Every day is not going to be a two-interception day.”

I could pick off Rusty though...

My Mouton hate comes from his horrible punt returning skills. He could end up being okay at corner, I suppose.

Wasn't Mouton one of the starting CB's when we got our asses handed to us 52-0 by the Pats?

It was 59-0... And yes, I believe he was - since Finnegan was hurt at the time.

LOL Ill be honest, 6 months ago, I was sure he would be cut before the season started. Glad he is finaalllyyyyyyyyy doing what he was drafted to do. He got thrown to the wolves pretty quick as a rookie.

I've been saying all offseason, this guy is going to be a pleasant surprise (of course, what do I know, I stole that from a guy I heard on 104.5).

Seems like he's finally healthy, and has had some time to mature and learn the position. I think he'll be great depth at worst, our starting 3rd corner over Campbell at best.

Cool camp story, just like Byron Ealy, and every other camp darling that never amounts to anything. We have one every year, and they almost always amount to nothing.

Mouton's career has already been defined. He's had one of the worst games as a returner in NFL history, and in the end, might have cost us a playoff spot. I've been done with him since then. His name is associated with shame and he's going to have to work a lot harder to get rid of that.

I think Mouton will be our #4 guy this season. He could see some time if one of our CB's goes down. You can never have to much depth. If somebody goes down we'll be depending on somebody to step to the plate. Sometimes you get injuries late in the season or during the playoffs.

I still think he should be cut. He's made ZERO progress since being a rookie, he's just not an NFL CB.
